Hike & Explore: The Glacial Masterclass

Don't just see the ice—walk across it. Learn how to combine a glacier hike with an ice cave discovery.

Why Combine These Activities?

Most basic ice cave tours involve a super jeep drive directly to the cave entrance. While efficient, you miss the vast beauty of the glacier surface. A combo tour allows you to strap on crampons and hike across the ancient ice before descending into the cave system below.

The Surface Hike

Traverse the blue-tinted ridges and deep crevasses of Falljökull or Svinafellsjökull. Your guide will explain the geology and the visible impact of climate change on the Skaftafell ice cap.

The Ice Cave Entry

After your hike, you'll reach the current season's ice cave. Entering through a hiking route often feels more remote and rewarding than the "jeep-in" sites.

Fitness Level

Glacier hiking requires moderate fitness. You will be walking on uneven ice/snow.n uneven, slippery terrain. Most combo tours have a minimum age of 10-12 years.
